I was born in Ipswich on 21/09/1960.
I grew up on Martlesham Heath airfield and spent many happy times there playing around the bunkers and buildings on the disused airfield.
We had access to most of the old base, but we were under strict instructions never to venture across the main runway to the technical site and main hangars there, so it always remained a bit of a mystery to us. I saw them build the BT tower or GPO as it was called then.
We often went on picnics into Rendlesham forest, with the parents of course. It was very easy to get lost in there and more often or not, would end up on the boundary fence-line of RAF Woodbridge. It was always a hive of activity and being a keen plane fanatic, loved watching the aircraft take off and land.
Unfortunately, we left the UK in 1973 to live in Australia. A VERY boring place by comparison! Imagine my suprise when I found the Book "SKYCRASH" in 1987. I then read UFO CRASH LANDING BY JENNY RANDLES. Subsequently, LEFT AT EAST GATE and then YOU CAN'T TELL THE PEOPLE,G.BRUNI.
The case has intrigued me ever since. I have revisited the area twice since then and in 1999 was fortunate enough to drive all over Bentwaters. In 2003 I went back again and took a visit to the actual landing site. I got caught in the forest after dusk, not realising the time and had to stumble around in the dark, trying to find my car. A very eerie experience indeed, as it was pitch black and could'nt see a thing. So it made me appreciate what the airmen went through that night.
I will visit again next year and look forward to up coming evidence for the case. I also work as a security officer on a military base and know the kind of things that go on. I have some interesting photos of Bentwaters which I will post on Facebook for the upcoming 30th anniversary. I welcome any comment and encourage any correspondence from interested persons, especially in regard to new material on the case.
